Frog (RealAudio sound sample)
The advertisement call of the male is an explosive, throaty "gunk!", likened to the sound made by plucking a loose banjo string. Calls often delivered in a series that drops slightly in pitch and volume: "Goonk!-gunk!-gunk!" Widespread throughout much of the East. Breeds from spring to late summer, calling from shoreline or from floating vegetation.
