Green Treefrog Hyla cinerea

Green Treefrog (RealAudio sound sample)

The male's advertisement call is a harsh, nasal "quank-quank-quank . . . ," repeated about once per second. From a distance, calls sometimes sound bell-like, which accounts for the local name of "cowbell frog." Greens Treefrogs range throughout the southeastern states; their raucous calls are commonly heard in cypress swamps during spring and early summer.
