Pine Barrens Treefrog Hyla andersonii

Pine
Barrens Treefrog (RealAudio sound sample)
The advertisement call of the male is a harsh "quok-quok-quok-quok-quok," very similar to the call of the Green Treefrog but somewhat more melodic and usually higher in pitch and repeated more rapidly (up to three calls per seond.) This rare species is restricted in range to pine barren regions in New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. Can be heard calling from swamps, bogs, and shrubby areas where water seeps to the surface.
