Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs, Eastern
by Lang Elliott with Donald and Lillian Stokes, Compact Disc Version
A NatureSound Studio Production
List of Dates, Locations, and Sources of Recordings
(species listed by track numbers for each disc in the compact disc version)
For many species, it will be necessary to listen closely to the soundprint while looking at the list of recordings used to make it. Transitions between recordings have been smoothed and it is sometimes difficult to detect the change from one recording to the next. Soundprints were created to give the listener a gestalt impression of each bird's sounds, with the repertoire diversity presented in a manner pleasing to the ear.
This product is not meant to introduce specific regional and dialectic differences among bird populations. However, I have made an attempt to include a variety of sounds (especially songs) for those species where dialectic differences are significant.
In the list below, dates and states are given when available, followed by the name of the recordist or the collection where an archived recording was obtained (BLB = Borror Laboratory of Bioacoustics, and FLMNH = Florida Museum of Natural History). Most of the recordings were made by Lang Elliott and several other individuals.
